New York

The Big Apple will forever hold a slice of my heart – the city that never sleeps offer so much that one is never at a loss for things to do, but rather at a loss for time in which to do all these things. Here are some of my favorites.

LITTLE BLACK BOOK: New York

Places of Interest

  • Grand Central Station – go, even if it is just to see the magnificent ceiling inside
  • Angelica Film Center –  If you’re into art movies, this is the place for you!
  • Metropolitan Museum of Art – Plan to spend a full day here. At least.
  • Guggenheim Museum – I’ve been amazed and disappointed by the exhibits here. They change fairly often and you should go, even if it is just for the building’s amazing architecture.
  • Staten Island Ferry – The best free way to get up close and personal with the Statue of Liberty. And it’s FREE!

My Favorite Restaurants

(Other than the obvious trendy New York ones that you’ll find in any guide book…)

  • Supper – My best Lower East Side haunt with daily specials and the best mozzarella in the city
  • Paris Commune – French cuisine in the heart of the trendy West Village – and the best part is that it’s owned by a South African. Say ‘Hi’ to Hugo for me when you go.
  • Kefi – Our Upper West Side local hangout. It’s loud, but the food is good and very reasonably priced.
  • Cookshop – The best spot for celeb-spotting in trendy Chelsea. The food is great and their cocktail list is to die for.
  • Spiga – The best Italian on the Upper West Side. Try the duck with plum – it’s yum!
  • La Esquina – this is the trendiest, hidden restaurant in town, right in SOHO. Mexican food with a kick, a tequila list as long as my arm, and a great, secret entry way into the restaurant, three stories below street level.
  • Joe’s Shanghai – Only the one on Pell street is worth a visit (IMO) – communal eating in the heart of Chinatown. Be sure to order at least two portions of the pork soup dumplings as you sit down. Trust me on this one. You have never tasted anything this good.
